A group of South African artisans based in the picturesque White River Hill in
the Mpumalanga province, have brought together their skills to produce stunning
brass and copper jewellery inspired by the Ndebele people and their
geometrical-themed murals, which they paint freehand on the exterior (and
occasionally the interior) of their homes, not only as decoration but also as
an expression of the Ndebele identity. The jewellery is made using local copper
and brass and every piece is burnished, heat-treated and finished by hand,
aiming to preserve the use of traditional techniques.
The silver-plated pieces in this collection come also from South Africa, but this
time from Johannesburg, where designer Lisa Selley creates jewellery ranging
from pure ethnic to funky modern. All pieces are made by hand using the
artistic skills of Africa's craftswomen. |
